Magpie’s Nest is…
✦A space that brings community members together in intergenerational and intercultural dialogue through art making.
✦An open art studio and gathering place that supports creative exploration through upcycling, skill sharing and expressive arts workshops.
✦A not-for-profit society that aims to create a meaningful culture of inclusion in our community.
✦An affordable rental space that is available to creative professionals such as artists, art therapists, wellness practitioners and community groups.
To build meaningful community connection through creative collaboration.
Our purpose is to create a safe, public home space that brings together community members regardless of their age, ethnicity or gender, to express themselves through creative avenues. To do this we offer an affordable and accessible art studio. We engage community members by inviting them to make art, to create in collaboration with their neighbours, and to contribute their own ideas and expertise through skill sharing. We believe art making inherently transcends our differences and brings people together.
✦To present art as an essential means of self expression and social change, not an elite discipline for the trained artist or “cultured” observer.
✦To reduce social isolation by providing collaborative projects that are not restricted by ability, income, literacy level or language.
✦To balance our technology driven lifestyle by tuning into our creativity and making something by hand.
✦To create novelty and beauty out of unexplored or forgotten materials.
✦To offer inclusive art events and the promotion of creative expression to the broader community.
We are Eleanor, Jessica, Paddi and Sarah. We have come together to create a vibrant and inspiring studio space that will bring people together. Our art experience includes:
✦Expressive arts and art therapy
✦Drawing and painting
✦Collage and mixed media
✦Altered book making
✦Textile Art and yarn bombing

✦Open studio time. This is an opportunity to explore our materials on your own with trained art facilitators should you need assistance or inspiration.
✦Evening Workshops including but not limited to upcycling, collage and knitting.
✦Skill sharing workshops facilitated by community members.
✦A small marketplace of handmade gifts and alternative art materials.
✦Tea by donation.
✦A monthly visiting artist series where local artists offer specialized workshops.
✦Special events and gallery shows.
✦Space rental outside of operating hours.
✦Workshop prices vary depending on material costs.
